Default should I get the hooker comps?

Im in need of some headers and really want long tubes. All the ones Ive seen that will fit are WAY too expensive! I have a 69 with a 351w and fmx and later will have a 4r70w. Well after 2 days of searching Im still undecided between long tubes or shorties. I can get ceramic hooker headers from jcwhitney for under $300 right now! Whats your experience with these in a 69 with a windsor and ps? I can return them if they dont fit but I doubt with any dings in them from a bfh! Would the sound and power be worth the possible headache between these and shorties? Any other suggestions?

why do you want long tubes? they give maximum hp at high revs where as tri-ys will give better mid range torque...what most people want.

"get what you pay for" applies too.

Just accept the fact that if you want good fitting and good performing headers, you're spending $600.

I have JBA mid length and am happy with them. They fit great and I don't have to worry about banging collectors on speed bumps.

I have hooker long tube competitions on my 69.. 351/fmx and they do fit. They are a little tight on the drivers side though where they straighten out under the frame. But then I put in an AOD and they didnt fit much at all. The passenger side was up against the trans pan. And if you do go with an aod, make your own trans mount. The ron morris one is crap and will not allow your exhaust to run correctly along the sides of the transmission tunnel. The mount is awkward shaped and sits directly in the path of the open header tube. The competitions are holding up well after almost three years but are showing some rust and fading, I would go with the ceramic coated ones if you can. They will hold up a lot better. I did not need the power steering ram drop, I actually bought one and it broke within two weeks of putting it on, so in a pinch I just put the old one back on and it fits fine. I think mid length headers would make life a little easier and some nice locking header bolts too, I have had to tighten mine a few times.
