Default Third Brake Light Opinions...

Hey guys so I have been debating on whether or not to add a third brake light because I live in California and although talking on the phone is illegal here everyone still does it and the people who drive in this state pretty much should not be driving. Even when going over 5mph over the speed limit you will still be tail gated because they want you to go faster.

Anyways I was thinking of an led strip up on the weatherstripping seen here

Here is the light in the day:

At night:

What are your guys opinions. The wiring would obviously be hidden but is it tasteful or just not cool at all?

I too am a mustang driver in CA and I know exactly why you would make this mod! My biggest worry while driving is that someone tailgating me will rear end me. As long as the lights are tucked well enough into the weatherstripping, and the wiring hidden like you said you would do anyways, I like it! Where did you get the lights? Brand etc?

I have always liked the "T" shaped looking ones that go in the bottom of the window.
But it looks like you can't do that with your car.

The cynic in me says if they don't see the brilliant LED taillights, you're toast anyway. My Mother's 84 LX cv was rear ended by a woman driving along texting on her laptop. 45 mph, never even touched the brakes. With idiots like that on the road, no one is safe.

Have to admit it's one of the better retrofit solutions - and it sits right up there a bit higher so it'll be seen over SUV hoodlines.

Does the headliner need to come down for the full install? Looks good!

The problem is that if 2 brake lights won't get someone's attention, a third won't help. Otherwise it's fine. It does help in the fog though since the 3 triangulated lights make it easier to judge distance and tell the size of the vehicle. People here do drive like crap, but I've noticed a TON of cars with Nevada and Arizona plates that are the WORST drivers I've seen. Ever.
