Question chrome help

Hi i just recently got my 65 mustang re-sprayed. and we took all the glass and chrome out and striped the car completely so that everything was done right. but I'm having a little trouble getting that chrome piece that goes along the rail above the door back on without bending tweaking it. Does anyone have any tips as to how to get that on? thanks ahead of time for your help.

ahhh the old drip rail molding.

Do you have the original or the re-pop? If you have the re-pop, I suggest buying another set so you have 2 since I guarantee you will run into problems and possibly dent the new one.

A lot of the time painters go very heavy and thick with the paint were the molding should go. What helped me was 1200 grit sand paper and a scotch brite pad to bring the lip down a bit. Next find your self a very small rubber mallet so you can roll the top edge of the molding on. (some people dont use the mallet on the re-pops due to how soft and cheap the new material is, I have read people have popped these on by hand but have never witnessed it my self) Good Luck and take you time. 45mins to an hour for each side is about right if you want to be extra careful with the new paint.

Here is a step by step link from Mustang Monthly if you would like to try it their way.

The basic thing to remember is they hook on the top, then click in at the bottom. Work your way along.
