Default C4 not going into gear?

Ok so i made the switch from the 302 to the 351w last week. In the process i lost a lot of ATF out of the C4 tranny. so added some untill it was full. took a sec to kick in but it worked. drove it for 10 miles to get some pipes put on. Started it up and again it took 30sec to go into gear? drove it home and parked it. Tried to move it this morning and wont go into gear at all. ATF reads over filled and there is a puddle underneath the car.

Any Ideas? why it not going into gear

First, tell us how you lost ATF while changing engines, it's probably relevant.

dont really know, best guess is that it leaked out of the radiator lines over night

hey man you need to check a c4 tranny fluid with the car idling and warmed up. Cold its always going to read as way above the normal line

Ran the car today for 15 mins.... Still reads too full. and car still wont go into gear??
If there was too much ATF would it keep the transmission from going into gear? There is an over flow on the transmission right? How many Vacuum lines run to a c4 tranny?? Could Vacuum be the issue ??

First, check the trans linkage. I had one that the 1/2" nut holding it came loose and just slid in the slot. Everything looked good but........ Second, if you still have a prob, pull the cooler lines off, I have a thought that pump went out! Might have been part of the prob when you lost fluid. I'm thinking the converter wasn't completely seated on the pump tags. When putting in a converter, it has to be seated in the input shaft, the stator shaft and the 2 tags have to be seated into the pump. The fluid should shoot out of the line about 20 feet so be careful. If no fluid shoots out, you need a converter and pump. Some shops can rebuild the pump by changing the gear but the converter will have a bad snout. Good luck. FYI, the vacuum won't do the probs you have. It'll make really hard shifts and no 3rd gear.

I was just out there with my buddy and i disconnected the modulator line from the tree and ran it directly to the vacuum port on the back of the intake manifold. well just kinda held it in place. wile my buddy put it into gear. IT WORKED! lol until i made it a little more permanent and tried it myself. It whoulnt go into gear again.

RANDY66GT: The converter was left in place during the engine swap........ But! are you saying disconnect the lines to the radiator with the engine off and then start the car and see if ATF is pumped out of them....

The vacuum doesn't affect the trans, really. You can really drive a C-4 without the vacuum hooked up but will have very hard shifts and no 3rd. Seriously, I think it might be the linkage because you got movement! Check the shifter and the linkage before you do anything else.
Yes, take the lines off at the rad and put the lines facing into a bucket and the crank it. That will tell you if the pump is working. Sounds like the tags weren't totally engaged and might have messed up the pump tags. I had a friend crush the tags into a \_/ shape instead of a |_| shape and his worked every so often. Check the lines first before pulling anything. Good luck.

I just pulled the lines like you suggested. Started the engine and nothing happend for about 10sec and then it seemed like it was pumping fluid fine? dident shoot out 20 feet but it was deff pushing ATF with force.

do you think it could be a filter has gottin clogged some how, my buddy said hes seen some GM cars where the filter deal falls tho the bottom of the pan.
