+1

I've been running the MSD6 box for the past thirteen years without a problem. And I'm also using points to trigger it with the idea that I'd have a backup in case the electronics fail. Actually, the only problem I've had was the stock distributer failing from age and wear. Some spacer or washer on the advance plate fell apart. But the Pertronix trigger sounds like a good idea.

I've never heard of any major problems with anything MSD. I run a Ready-to-Run distributor in my 331 and it's worked fine as my daily driver since '01. Every now and then you run into a box that's died, but I've heard of many more dead Pertronix units than MSD boxes.

The whole reason to get a new distributor is for ease of adjustment. The advance curve will need to be set; you can't just assume the factory settings will do the trick.

Why do you need to get rid of your old distributor? Usually there's no reason you can't have it recurved and drop an MSD box in if you feel the necessity.

well, if your asking me its because i want one...i'm doing all kinds of things to up grade and why not that, the 351W i have is a roller motor with a tri power and everything is port matched.i really didn't know it needs to be ajusted, the sumitt details say just hook up the 3 wires and coil and away you go ? do they make a ready to run with a steel gear and small dia for a 351 ??

I've been running the Petronix with no complaints in an otherwise normal / stock distributor.

Kicked around adding the new distributor with box but I've debated if there would be anywhere near a horsepower gain that would justify the costs.

Speaking from experience, the out-of-the-box advance curve on the Ready-to-Run distributor is not ideal. You'll need to set it up for your engine. Don't worry, it's easy to do.

Starfury - do you have access to a distributor machine? Or do you use the old timing light and clipon tach? (Who knows...maybe nobody has access to a distributor machine anymore.)
