Default Difficult startup

I have to put the gas pedal all the way to the floor when starting the car(cold and hot). Otherwise car runs perfectly. Seems as though I need to adjust something on the carb? It's a 2v 260 engine. Carb recently rebuilt. I adjusted everything according to maual(or so I thought).

That is just a common difference between EFI and the carburetor. Mine has always been two pumps to start.

No, I've had many old cars. Holding the gas pedal down to start 'em in not normal. I'm thinking a float problem.

Yea shooting gas in to get it started normal but having to flood the thing everytime not. Check fuel filter and floats i'm assuming fuel pump is fine since the car runs fine once it starts.

And of course heat soak would cause this problem but not starting it cold so not that either.

well if it runs great after it starts and it drives great too...it aint floats.

Maybe the accel pump is dumping WAY too much fuel into the carb and that causes the engine to flood requiering you to hold the throttle down.

What happens if you only pump it half way? maybe 3/4 of the way??

It sounds pretty typical if mine has been sitting. I have to hold the pedal to the ground and it doesn't like to run for a few minutes without slight pressure on the pedal.

If I drive it to a car meet or something then it starts right up when I get back in a few hours later but even then it needs a pump of the pedal first for encouragement.
