67 Hesitation, Time to adjust the Carb?

Default 67 Hesitation, Time to adjust the Carb?

Car ran great today for the first 20 mins. Then in some stop and go traffic, the car started to slightly hesitate in first like it was thinking about stalling when I would give it a little gas.

I brought the car it the gas station since I had less then 1/4 tank of gas thinking my float was off again and I was running out of gas, but everything check put after 7gal in.

Brought the car back to the house with almost zero hesitation and let the car idle on the drive way for about 15mins with out a stall.

Im thinking it could be something with my carb, its been almost 3 years with out any adjustments. Is it normal not to make adjustments for this about of time? (she is only a saturday driver maybe one ride for about an hour or two)

My engine is a 289 with a eb 600cfm carb.

What kind of manifold are you using? Also, are you running a spacer between the carb and intake?

I have the entire performer package from edelbrock.........yes i have a spacer too.

I decided to make a minor adjustment to the carb and it seemed to fix the problem. Just a half turn on the right and full on the left and she is running better then ever!

I guess sometimes its all about doing what you dont want to do.

Again, typically how often does a carb need to be adjusted?

*shrug* Edelbrocks are fairly maintenance free, as long as the car is run regularly. I bet your idle needles/circuits are just a little gummed up. You might throw some seafoam in your tank before your next gas up.

ya. Starfury is right. needles and stuck floats are the main problem.
hesitation at off idle is usually a lean spot which you might have cured with the adjustment. However you'd be best off having the idle mixture screws out the same amount.
Turn them in til seated (don't force, just when they touch end postition stop). then turn out 1 and a half turns. Same with both of them. screw them in by quarter turn each, if idle starts to stumble turn back out to where you started. if it stumbles off idle try turn them out (open) in quarter turn steps
