hey guys, im approaching the painting stage of my basic resto and i wanted to know what you guys thought of paint choice and the shop.
im planning on keeping it the same color unless you guys convince me otherwise.
it was originally an olive green color but was painted the current color before i bought it.
im planning to take it to Maaco, unless you guys have other suggestions
i live in MN so if you know anyone there tell me.

I think maaco is fine if you're shooting it on a pickup truck or a beater, but not if you want a quality job done.
Ask around with the local car clubs and see who they use the most. Then check a few of them out and see who you like. This will not be cheaper than maaco, but you won't be repainting the car in 5 years. The difference will be in the prep work, a good body shop will do more, and its the prep work that you don't see that makes the paint you do see look good.
If you are tied by budget, keep saving until you have enough to do it right.
Hope this helps.

Maacos are actually franchise stores so there are some very reputable shops that paid for the maaco name to get extra business. There are a couple of Maacos here in Cali that do excellent work but not at maaco 1k prices. Just do some research and look at any current projects they are doing
do your own dissassembly and masking or they will shoot whatever and wherever.we spent 8 months on my buddies bodywork and he got impatient and went to MAACO,The paint looked ok at best and was white and chalky within the year.

i have a mechanic who does mostly bodywork and has an account with Maaco hopefully ill get a better paint job for less...

What I'm planning on doing is priming my mustang black (much like matte black) and assembling it after primer. I may then have to wait a few months until paint, but I feel I will be satisfied with it in a few layers of black primer, at least until I can paint it. It'll look cool enough for me, and then I can finish it with paint when i can afford it.
I suggest you do the same, prime it black and paint it a real color when the time comes. Also, if you prime it black you will get a feel of what it will be like in a matte black color, which may or may not prompt you to paint it something other than matte black in the future.
I knew I read this somewhere, and I agree with it. I know a shop in Atlanta that was a regular paint and body shop before they took on the Maaco name. Obviously these shops may charge more than Maaco 1k but I'm sick of people trashing the Maaco name when some of the shops are legitimate, good shops.
I agree with this. I don't think you'll want your mustang matte black forever. It'll look cool but a better paintjob will make you much happier I think.

John Deer makes a Satin Enamel for about 30$ a gallon that will protect your car nice...heres a thread about it
Maaco, it's amazing the businesses that Anthony Martino started. The 2 that most people think of is MAACO, Martino Anthony A Co and AAMCO, Anthony A Martino Co. But did you also know he is the franchiser of The Goddard School?
Anyway, back to the painting thread
