Default hipo manifolds

Instead of reviving an old thread, decided to start a new one.

I'm in the process of installing a set of hipo manifolds on my 289. Got the passenger side on fairly easily, but am having trouble with the drivers side. It appears that the manifold is hitting the motor mount, and I suspect I'll need to switch it out or pick up the motor enough to get the on and let it rest against the mount.

Do the manifolds require a different mount or should the fit fairly easily? Unless I missed read this online, I noticed that ford offered these as an upgrade for a while.

If you have the early style mounts (before 11/1/65), you need to grind off some material from the upper rear corner of the mount. Not a big deal. You might even have to do that for the later mount. The later style was the same on all 289's, including the HP.

Here is some mount info:

I had to grind off some of the mount on my 65 fastback to get the the HIPO Manifold on the drivers side to fit.

When new, they do. As they age, and settle a bit in height, the spazillionth of an inch clearance disappears and the corner of the mount can begin to dig into the manifold. Many factors can effect this, depending on who made the mounts.

You need to grind on the mount for the drivers side to fit. It will take about 5 or 10 minutes to do it.

Can you just switch from early mounts to the Hi-po mount and resolve the issue?

Hmmm… If by that you meat the 64-65 style 289HP mounts, that could easily run $1000. The upper and lower brackets are not reproduced, and the upper and lower rubber insulators alone would run $125.

If you mean the 66 style mounts, the brackets and insulators cost about $175.

Ohhh, thanks. I did not think it was as involved as that. My early 65 mounts are shot and I am also going the hipo manifolds so I figured I would do it all at the same time....Now I need to decide if I should just keep the original style.
