Opinions on electronic ignition options
Opinions on electronic ignition options
I am looking to pick up an electronic ignition (don't want to deal with points).
In NPD I see they have the Ignitor and Ignitor II.
Any opinions on these? Something else you would recommend?
Do I need to get anything else (coil, wires, etc) to go with this?
They have a solid shaft and a hollow shaft. I have a 67 with a 289, I am thinking that is the hollow shaft (how would I know)?

The Ignitor I is a drop-in. While not as fancy as the II, it works great and will improve hard starting and reliability.
The Ignitor II is fancier, including things like variable dwell and automatic key-on-engine-off coil cutoff (to keep from accidently melting your coil). Unfortunately, it's very specific on what voltage it needs and what kind of coil you use. You need to bypass the stock ignition resistor wire to feed it 12V, and you can't run a low-resistance (high performance) coil with it. Also, an internally resisted coil is needed to keep from burning it out. Found this out the hard way on a buddy's car.
If you can find one, a Crane ignition unit is the better option, but I don't think they're making them yet since the ownership change.
