Default Found a problem

well the engine had some pretty bad vibration. I took it back uof he car and when i was doing thata piece ofmtal fell out (uh oh). well it was the weight off of my B and M flexplate. It had a poor welding job and just fell off cracking my bellhousing (how nice). What i want to know though is where to find the casting numbers on a crankshaft. It still vibrated before i did the engine rebuild and im wondering if this crank doesnt require some different weight set up. I put 28oz on both ends which is what my year requires but now im wondering if this crank isnt from something else or some other year. I saw a 2m so i know its for a 302. Any ideas on where to find the casting number? Anyone else have this problem with engine vibration? is the crankshaft bad?

Do your heads have square ports and headers have oval ports?

Total advance is the important one.

34* total is safe and good for stock engine.

I run my cammed engine at a more aggressive 38*.

More than 38* not for the shade tree.

ya. you disconnect the vacuum at distributor for advance and plug the hose, then slowly rev the engine and watch the ignition advance. at some stage (usually between 3000 and 4000) it will stop advancing. this maximum advance bring to about 32-34 degrees

make sure the distributor housing is grounded. It won't always have a good ground if you used a new gasket. I always run a dedicated ground for the housing. Could be causing part of the electrical miss.
