Default 65-66 shock towers

I was going to replace the shock tower on the passenger side of the car because of what I thought was a huge dent. Then I see other 66s with the same dented in shock tower. Why was the purpose of this?

You can clearly see it in this (2+2GT) pic.

This is normal. The "dent" is for clearance on the generator.
