Wow so quick to defend someones "rights"

I don't see where he got the building permits that were needed? And the studies he had done were because other people asked for it to be done.

Yeah, so far I see this as pissing in the pool and complaining because everyone else complaines that they have to swim in it even though you are in your little corner of the pool.

I'm all for freedom but not without regard for others. Otherwise, it's anarchy.

first of all if you own something you have the right to do with it as you please....if i had some land to put a building on it i would build it without a permit because i dont need permission to use my property....by controlling someone elses property a person is using Democracy(mob rule) to enslave and control them when we dont live in a Democracy at all the United States is a Republic( mob restrained by the rule of law)

Article 4 section1 of the Constitution
The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government

who owns the mans garage?? he does! who owns the property on which the building sit? he does so what right does anyone else have to his property? absolutely none

if i let you use my wrench do you have a right to use it? ummm no you only have the privilege to do so and i can revoke that consent at anytime

This is not true...and has not been true since long before you were born. You need a permit from the local county/township to build any structure other than a shed (and sometimes that) on your property. This is done for dozens (hundreds even maybe) of reasons all designed to protect you and other people from 'things'.

Even if you owned 10,000 acres and wanted to build a structure you would need a permit. Sure you 'can' build it without one but one day the county would find out and since you have built something illegal at that point you would be required to pay heavy fines.

I would love to see you go bananas if you found a gold vein in a hole you dug on your 'property' and then found out you have no mineral rights to it

12 years ago we moved in a large part because we hated our neighbors. At one point I placed about 6 plastic Pink Flamingo's on our property line to **** off the guy next store. It worked.

Even if this guy wins he will be out major cash to defend himself and the stress of having to defend yourself against a bunch of A Holes.

From the article:
"In 2003, Greenfield obtained permits to build a 26' X 40' garage. Trouble started when the work began in April 2004."

To me it sounds like he started out down the right road in building his dream garage and then someone decided that it wasn't "their" dream garage and was hell bent on making waves.

If the guy built the garage without a permit and any other mandatory approvals I would say that he was in the wrong, but seriously if he honestly isn't doing business out of there what business is it of his neighbors provided they are quiet and aren't dumping gas and oil in the soil?

What if the guy had Sunday football parties on a regular basis in his home. Would all the cars parked in front of "his" house and in "his driveway" **** someone off? Maybe the guy is a jerk and that's not being told, but the way I see it is he is being badgered by a grouchy ***** of a neighbor(s).

this weekend I am putting up a patio cover over my patio without a permit and they can kiss my @ss for two reasons:

1. When they built my house they bought the government to declare it was not in a flood zone, then after they sold all the houses, it was declared a flood zone again, now we need mandatory flood insurance

2. i am not billions of dollars in debt like my state so I question their judgment in the first place, lay off of the citizens

I always found it ironic that as citizens we are expected to be fiscally responsible and abide by the laws by a government full of suspected corruption and way out of balance budgets.
I do kind of suspect that it has historically always been this way forming the basis for many a rebellion.

^This.

I live within spitting distance of Stockbridge, and kbryan is being way too kind.

The town is full of "liberal" granola crunching tree hugging pompous yuppie *****. What they are "pulling" on Mr. Greenfield is blatantly a violation of his rights, but the law never stops these "Righteous Keepers of Mankind" from forcing their will upon others. They do know best after all.
This has caused most sane people to move away and cede the town to the lefties.
The ironic part of this saga lies in the types of automobiles cited. Alfa Romeos, Jaguars, a Lancia, and several BMWs. I doubt anyone that would be seen dead in a Boss 429 still lives in Stockbridge, not even our Mr. Greenfield or his pals. But, the guy is a dying breed, a native, and he's getting screwed over because he attracts people who like, and like to work on those evil (but necessary) polluting machines that are destroying mother Earth. I'm sure there are those who smugly think, "At least the cars aren't American."

Fact or fiction?

1.86 out of every 2 automobiles registered in Stockbridge, Massachusetts is a Toyota Prius.

I agree that you should have a permit. Without it people do stupid unsafe things. Or if your rich you just say F U like this guy did and so far he's winning:
