Default Hidden MP3 player????

Hey guys, I want to rig some means of splicing an MP3 player into my radio wiring of my 67 vert.

I don't want to replace the original setup. Right now I have a NOS factory 8-Track and I want to be able to use that since I have a pretty decent collection of them. The radio is AM only I seem to recall and that presents a problem for an FM modulator I'd guess?

How can I plug one in? I figure I will need some sort of amplifier to boost the output?

What can I do short of cramming an AM/FM/CD/MP3 player in the glovebox? I'm sure with that I'll have to split both systems with a toggle switch to keep power from feeding back into the one not being used.

This might do the trick for you:

I talked with the owner and he says the external wire is a normally open (or, maybe is normally closed) and the radio will work until an ipod unit is plugged in. Then the ipod works.

Not to change the subject, but how do you keep 8-tracks from falling apart. A lot of the ones I have seem to come apart at the seam of the tape, or you can hear two songs at the same time as it plays.

I wish you luck on your project. Sounds like a great one!

That would be really awesome if someone could figure out how to do that (DIY). It doesn't look too complex but I don't know how it would tie into the circuitry.

I know there is a way to do this if it has a cassette player, there a fake cassette that has a wire coming out so you put the cassette in and plug the wire into ipod, my friend has this one he uses it in his corolla. as for 8 track there could be something similar not sure.
not exactly DIY but its not too expensive prolly find everything for 15-20 bucks

UPDATE:
there is a 8 track cassette adapter (stick the cassette into adapter then adapter into 8 track) then get the cassette w/ipod connection and plug that into the first assembly

Exactly right, MustangFTW. I have one of those for my 8 track, however the 8 track, although recently overhauled, still sounds wavey and slow with a known good 8 track tape and the adapter barely works at all. I don't think it's that dependable as the ipod wire in the AM radio. It should work better and I will probably go that route soon.

WHAT! Awesome!!!!

I might just pick that up just in case. My 8-track actually plays great and you can find new 8-tracks on ebay. I have several new KISS, Jefferson Airplane, Ted Nugent, and various other 8-tracks.

I still want to go the AM route gjz30075 posted. It would be way more reliable.

iwas just in my friends car and he had his ipod connectd to his cassette player the audio was amazingly clear, but if your 8 track player is iffy then i see how it can mess the sound up
