Question Original Transmission ???

My 68's ID # says the car originally had a manual transmission. When I bought it, it had a C4 3-speed tranny. I've been told that it was common practice back in the day to switch trannys if one went bad, etc. Other than the ID #, is there any way to tell if the car originally came with a manual tranny? Any 'tell tale signs' I can look for?

The firewall clutch rod hole was not punched in auto trans cars.

A Marti report will tell you the configuration of your car when it was built and what options it came with, and how many like it were built.

OK. I have this hole cut in the firewall, so it looks like the car originally had a manual tranny. I got a Marti Report and a report from Ford Motor Co. One said the C4 was the original tranny, one said the original tranny was a manual. The car isn't a show car and hasn't been restored, but it is a well kept original (except when I bought it, it had just been painted red but was originally candy apple red). Has the value of the car been hurt if the C4 was not the original type tranny? Or does it matter since it's not a show car and hasn't been restored?

I didn't know you could get a report from Ford, where did you get that? a dealer?

Email Kevin Marti and ask why his report differs from the Ford report.
His data for the reports were supposed to have come from Ford.
