Engine is in, but...
I dropped in my 302, and fixed some of the problems I had with the process. However, I still have an interference problem with my flexplate. My old thread can be found here:
https://mustangforums.com/forum/clas...erference.html
Now, the engine is all bolted up, but the flexplate balance weight is smashed up against the bellhousing spacer super tight (engine wont spin). Before tightening the block to the bellhousing, we checked the torque converter, and thought it was all the way in, but I'm guessing it wasn't, and that is what is causing the issues.
So, what can I do from here? Are there any other issues that would cause this problem? If not, I know the transmission will probably have to be removed for the TQ to be seated properly. Is there anything that could have been damaged by tightening it down without the torque converter seated?
Also, I am back at school now, and its looking like I will have to pay a shop to finish the swap because unfriendly neighbors will complain to the homeowners association about having a non-functioning vehicle in front of my parents place... Is this a pretty big undertaking (aka- costly), and what type of shop should I take it to?
Thanks for the help in advance!

Yes apparently this is quite a common issue the cause of this issue has always in the past been due to a torque converter that did not fully seat. I have a good feeling history will repeat it self again...If true the good news is you know the problem.

Yep, shouldn't cost anything to fix, just R&R the tranny and make sure you seat the torque converter by spinning it until it drops down further. I'm not sure about the flexplate, but check it to make sure you didn't damage it.
A shop will charge a few $100 to do it, depending on the shop.

Also check the diameter of the hole where the center of the TC slides into the center of the flywheel. I dont know what it is called but I know they make two different diameters. also check this measurement here...http://www.partshp.com/TC_fig1.gif
Okay, thanks for all the help. I'm sure it was the TQ, so I'll just have to pull everything apart and make sure it is seated all the way. Hopefully it would not have damaged the flexplate, but I'll double check. Is there any chance it would have damaged the transmission in any way. I thought I remember hearing it could bust an oil pump or something...
I was having the same problem with a TC i bought off ebay. Went downtown bought the TC i should have bought in the first place and everything worked great. I wouldnt worry about having broken anything in the tranny. Like I said I went through the exact same problem
