Default Coolant filter screen

I would like a cone shaped filter screen inside my radiator hose.

I don't want to cut radiator hose.

I would attach a warning note: "Check filter screen often".

My radiator and heater cores are all working and I would like to keep it that way.

Any ideas out there?

Why would you want to risk having the filter clog up and cut off that vital fluid???
Or worse, get the filter stuck in the waterpump!!
Just flush it out once in a while to clean it, it's been working well for many generations.

the only filters i have seen go inline, meaning you have to cut the upper hose to install it.The screen is so fine it will clog with scale and sludge pretty quickly.

Default Tea strainer

Think I'll go shopping for a tea strainer.

Points noted.

Must be careful about strainer blockage.

Maybe I'll just experiment.

flush your cooling system once a year and you will be good to go. Unless you have been having problems there is no need to put a filter in line that can break off and plug things up. And even if you are having problems then i would be trying to find out where the problems are.

I'm far too lazy and poor to change coolant in all my rides once a year.

I have gotten several years service by using only distilled water and coolant.

I am just curious what kind of trash is lurking and looking for a core passage to plug.

then do not get a filter. You would have to lower the coolant level to clean the filter and you would still end up dropping coolant and depending on the sludge you might have to do it a few times a year.

Filter will be in hose high point.

I will loose very little if any fluid when I check filter.

I will check filter often and may remove filter once I'm satisfied no trash in system.

Not easy to remove all trash and fluid from system when changing fluid.

I think filter will likely remove more trash than coolant draining and typical flush.

I run one of the Gano filters that seems to work okay, but a little pain to clean. I think JamesW had a cool screen set up. I will see if I can find thread.
Here you go.

Dirty antifreeze will plug a paint strainer right now, imo if a person wants to torch an engine, put a screen in the cooling system.

There is a reason that OEM's don't use these.

There are purpose made inline filters for cooling systems, while I don't advise their use either, they would likely be better than a homemade "screen". I want to think that a purpose made filter would spread the area of the filter to an area much greater than the cross section of the hose, which is way, way too small for a filter.

A BETTER idea would be to use a "big truck" style filter, what they do is run a spin on filter through heater size hoses, this will filter the coolant without obstructing the cooling path (big hoses).

Do you get me? it is a bypass filter, not a full flow. (these filters also have a pellet with cooling system additives to extend coolant life indefinitely, pretty smart....)
