A little help..
Hi,
This is my first time, so be gentle.. I'm trying to replace all the rubber around the doors on my '65 coupe. I know this is a do-it-yourself thing, but I really would like someone to handle it for me (especially the wing windows). Who would do this kind of work (body shop, glass shop?) and can anyone sugest a shop in Southern California that may be able to help me? Also, reading through some of the other posts there has been mention of a Mustang parts house "NPD" - can you advise me about this vendor, I'm unfamilliar with them. My gear selector (automatic) has worn down the "teeth" that positions the selector (and holds it) in the chosen gear. I have not seen a repacement for this item anywhere - lots of nylon bushings, but not this associated part..is this a junk yard deal? As long as we're at it, has anyone upgraded their factory air conditioning to handle R-22? I still have R-12 in the system, but it's leaking slowly (needs help about once a season). I'd like to know if the original '65 factory compressor can be used. Finally, has anoyone encountered a conversion from coupe to convertable that makes a quality transformation - and are there any professionals specializing in this kind of work in my area (as mentioned above Southern California)?
Thanks in advance for your help, happy motoring

White Horse,
The correct referigerant upgrade is R134a, not R22--R22 is used for fridgerators and houses. They sell a kit you can purchase from your local parts dealer to upgrade. However, you really need to take it to an A/C place to remove the old R12 and oil; they cannot mix. It sounds like you have some leaks, so taking it it for the conversions might be perfect.

First of all, welcome to the site. Unfortunately, there aren't many restoration places that will replace the rubber around your windows without having them restore your entire body. Most of us do that ourselves. You can get the rubber from many Mustang vendors, but one I would recommend is Mustang Unlimited. NPD is also another good supplier. So, hike up your sleeves, order the parts, and do it yourself.
