How should I restore my 65 fastback???
Just bought a 65 fastback 2+2 (first one) and in the process of restoring it. All original car. More than anything, just wondering if I should keep it all original or make some modern updates to brakes, steering, interior etc. Looking to turn it in the spring/summer if I can let it go. Overall looking to make some money here. Any suggestions on what options bring in the most bucks???
Get the engine to run well, make sure the brakes work well, wash and wax it and call it good.
The less you do to it the more money you'll make..spend your time looking for a buyer and simply state the car as running well and drivable.
The better you make it and the more time you spend on it the less you'll net

Post a pic and a VIN so we can know how the car is equipped etc.. Some things matter more than others. I for one would rather get any car without mods.
And I would PM any members that are in your area with a general asking price right away!

The old car market is in the can right now with everyone out of work they are selling off there toys cheap.To make any money off it will take 5+ years if you see any extra that is.Build it for you and enjoy owning it.

No pics as of now, wouldn't do any justice anyways. The rear end is out so I can get new frame rails and a floor pan in. I wanna bring the car back to original raven black w/ black interior but didn't know if pony interior would be a good upgrade or not? Not planning on making any big engine changes, maybe a mild cam upgrade and carb. Also, a good exhaust. Car doesn't have power breaks/steering pretty basic package. Any thoughts on possible updates? Or stay all original? Thanks.

I would consider making modern updates like front disc brakes, more for safety than anything else. You can always "redo" other upgrades like suspension while keeping it original. If it is an all original, I would keep it as close to original as possible, while maintaining safety of course. Those are getting rarer these days.
Sounds like it's pretty rusty or has some damage, hence the new rails and floor pan. You can always restore it to original condition, even if you have to replace a bunch of metal. You can do upgrades to it, like a rack and pinion steering, keep the original equipment, so you can go back to original if you want. But I doubt you will want to.......

I would do the K code brakes with a new Master cylinder for sure. About the floor pan, I am going to use the Goodmark over the Dynacorn on my 65. The Dynacorn is not correct for the 65 hard top cars!

Well, that'll cost you over a thousand dollars. Replacing a standard interior is less than half that. Your choice.

289HP air cleaner, Edelbrock or Summit 600 cfm carb, Edelbrock Performer RPM or Cobra intake, Stock distributor recurved to performance specs, C9OZ-6250-C hydraulic cam, stock heads exhaust-port-matched to 289HP exhaust manifolds. You might want to consider a valve spring upgrade and screw-in studs. Change the rockers as per this link:
289 High Performance Valve Train Upgrade
Note that I have not listed a bunch of chrome, 10mm wires, exotic ignition, etc. You don't need it. This is a high-results-low-buck upgrade list that'll give you a real snappy performer, but so smooth your wife will like driving it. And it won't bankrupt you.
Also, a good exhaust.
Lots of people do WAY too much there. Stock GT 2", or upgrade to 2.25".

My personal favorite is the Arvinode, a Ford factory tuned system with no mufflers:

One thing you'll have to do (if you don't want to die) is change the rear brake lines to the dual type, so the LH tailpipe doesn't destroy the brake hose.

Stay original, take your time. You should upgrade the handling by incorporating the "Arning/Shelby drop". Best thing since sliced bread.
Arning/Shelby Suspension Drop
Beyond that, you should consider GT-rate springs, a 1" front sway bar, and a decent set of gas shocks. If the car has the 5-turn steering gearbox, put a 4-turn box on your Christmas list. If you decide you want disc brakes, get an OEM-style kit. Uses the same spindles (saves you a lot of work and money) and uses stock-for-your-year parts. Oh, and costs under $600.
