Default Radios - years and models etc.

So I'm trying to decide on a radio for my '68 with padded console. I thought about a Retrosound one, I thought about a new fancy DIN one, but I decided I really want a original looking one. I want people to feel like they are back in 1968 when in the car.

I have not found a good resource on the different radios that are period correct. I've been looking through Ebay mostly trying to figure it out. I don't care if I get the exact right year/model that was in my car originally but I do know I want one with lots of chrome. It seems some have chrome bezels, some chrome push buttons and some are quite plain black plastic.

I did get one off ebay already because it seemed like a good deal. This one:

I can't read the Ford part number on it (it is stamped in ink) but it looks to me like it starts with E3 which would indicate '83 although from Ebay pictures it looks the same as stock radios from late 60's- 70's.

The radio works great I would just like to chrome it up. Does anyone know if chrome bezels typically found on the AM radios could be used to replace the plastic one on the radio I have? Or the chrome push buttons? Assuming they are all Philco? Also does anyone know what radios had metal ***** and which had plastic?

Any links to radio info? (schematics or service manuals would be assume aswell)

Thanks,

Mike

You should know the 67 Mustang radio had chrome pushbuttons, but the 68 had black:

The one you bought is pretty close, mainly the the textured black should be smooth, and the 68 didn't have the thin balance ****, but it's not that obvious. You'll need 68 *****, of course.
