Default So this is kicking my butt

Trying to separate the lower control arm ball joint with no avail...

I have hammered, pried, pounded and cussed it to no avail, I even bent my pickle fork . Any suggestions for a particularly stuck one?

Also the new lowers I got from cjp don't have a grease fitting, should I add one?

Thanks

Not sure how your hitting it, but here's the trick i've found to work well.

Heat the spindle itself around the hole for the balljoint with a blowtorch to expand the metal and break the 20 year mesh of metals.

A few convinceing taps of the hammer (from the side AND down) and it will usually pop right out.

first off put the pickle fork down...now just take the knuckle you want a part hit it on the side with a sledge it will fall apart like butter...

I did the same thing, never used a pickle fork before. If the new one from CJP have a hole with thread they should need one. The new ones I installed had them. I would think you would need them to grease the joint.

No it doesn't have a place for one, but like you I would think they would need to be greased.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I was going to try the heat earlier but looks like my oxygen reg has blown out on my torches. I'll try whacking it some more tomorrow.

I used a free puller rental kit from the local advance auto, most parts stores have them but there's was more complete for different sizes. You put down a deposit or CC and get it back in full when you return the kit. I used the press ones that look like the thing from Tron, few turns, tap spindle few turns and 'POP' the balljoint released, same for the tie rods, centerlink, etc.

The best and easiest ball joint tool I ever saw, I made myself:

It's a functional copy of the Ford Service tool, which is totally not available.

Which oddly enough, functions the same way the factory Ford one did, iirc.

Edit: haha, didn't see what you listed under the picture until after I posted.
