Backfires Badly with EFI System
#12
Thanks for the help so far. Sounds like the issue is the location of the distributor rotor and the body. I don't have the instructions for the installation of the MSD billet distr. PN 8598 when it has been pulled from the engine. I put the engine at 0 degrees on the harmonic balancer on the compression stroke. Installed distributor rotor to point sort of toward 2 o'clock when looking at it from the front of the engine. Aligned #1 spark plug wire with that point. Set static timing at 6-8 degrees btdc. Still not sure if the distr. is in the correct location.

You can check the distributor location by pulling the #1 plug and using a straw as a feeler. When the piston comes to the top of the cylinder (compression cycle), your distributer rotor should be pointing to the #1 tower on your dist.
I had a similar problem with my PowerJection 1 install. My engine building marked up a distributor cap and handed it to me...the cap was off one tower all the way around. I couldn't get my car to start and it took me a week to figure out the problem.
Also, keep in mind that the computer doesn't start 'learning' until the system enters closed loop mode at 150*. If you think your issue is a lean condition, plug in your lap top and you can monitor the AF ratio. If you are lean you can add fuel in the 'coolant enrichment (warm up)' section on the Dashboard. The last thing you want to do is try to warm up your new stroker in a lean condition.
