Default Tail light panel painted, thoughts?

Well I have liked the black pieces that can be bought and stuck in place. However with the cheapest one I found running 200+ I decided to paint it. It was originally suppose to be flat black but the clear coat put some semi gloss in it.
Taped off and ready for sanding

2 coats of grey automotive primer

3 light coats of flat black and 2 of clear.

Waiting to put it back together in the morning. Opinions?

Not well known, is that charcoal black metallic tl panel was a legit 67 option. People think that was part of the ribbed panel option, but it was not. The ribbed panel could also be had in body color.

Typically, though, if people cared enough to get the ribbed panel, they were in an option-buying mood, and got the charcoal, too.

Here it is re-assembled, bumper gave me alot of problems with the bolt on the driver side since the bumper has been hit before.

And 2+2GT- I had no idea, I knew about the ribbed panel option but never about the charcoal option. Thats pretty awesome actually wish mine would have had it.

Looks like you did a good job, maybe the height of where you took the picture makes it a little difficult to see with the bumper reflecting a lot of it.

Your disc brake decal gave me a chuckle.

If I may, you could almost perfectly straighten the bumper by removing it, and using plywood or small boards, covered with an old blanket to protect the chrome, step on the back of the bumper and get that "tuck" out of the lower edge, especially near the LH bumper guard. The curve of the outer line is almost perfect (it's supposed to be there) but the upward twist of the inner edge, near the newly painted panel, is not. However, straigtening the lower edge, while a helper steadies the bumper, would probably remove most of that, too. A spare 2x4, bolted to each bumper bracket, would make steadying the bumper a breeze.

I like the way it looks. I've thought about doing the same thing myself.
