Default Upholstery

Ok Iv got a 67 but my interior is mixed with 68 stuff. Well the seats, door panels, and inner door handle is 68 the rest seems to be 67.

The interior is two toned blue / dark blue. I have looked at mustangs unlimited, cjponyparts, NPD, and ebay. I can not for the life of me find this two tone combo for 67 or 68.

What im wondering is can i use upholstery for a 65 or 66 with my 68 seats and the 67/68 door panel style. The reason for asking this is because of the two tone, my wife made a suggestion of blue /white two tone and I was thinking and have put it on the table for thought.

One more thing is there more to the seat design like the frame its self when it comes to the difference between 67 and 68 seats or is it just a cushion or just he upholstery that is different.

here are a few pictures to help explain what im tryin to say. image 049 is what I would ideally like to have.

Hopefully I can help.

First off, NO, you can't use 65-66 upholstery on your '68 seats. The entire seat frame assembly is different for 1968. 1965-1967 share the same frames, but '67 used different foam.

Secondly, I don't understand how you're not finding 2-tone blue '68 upholstery..?? It's standard issue, the Sierra outer bolsters are light blue, and the Kiwi inserts are a darker blue.

We have exact-replacements for the '68 upholstery you've pictured, and so should all of the named competitors, unless Distinctive is doing something funky... All I can speak for is the TMI I've got on the shelf, which is lt-blue bolsters with med/dk-blue insert.

67 & 68 door panels are interchangeable.

If you ever do wish to convert back to a correct 1967 interior, you'll have to buy 65-67 seat frames, 67 seat foam, 67 shields, and some associated hardware/stops/etc... You can re-use your tracks.

And just like I outlined for the 1968 2-tone blue, the 1967 standard blue upholstery is ALSO 2-tone just like your picture, right out of the TMI box. And I'm certain that Distinctive is correct in this as well, as this is basic/fundamental stuff here.

I'm also surprised/dismayed if any of my sales staff told you that the 67-68 blue upholstery sets were not 2-tone. Again, this is fundamental stuff.

So there you go... No intention to hijack the thread for a sale, rather it just seems as though you're getting led through the land of the blind! Now you can see!!!

Yeah, you should be able to achieve the "049" photo easily. The two-tone blue was normal for 66-68 blue interiors. In your place, I'd get 67 seats, and sell the 68's. Used frames, or even new ones, can be had. Reworking the seats, etc., is pretty much the same whether you go "correct" or not, and when it's done you'll be glad you did it.

Well I guess Im just getting confused when looking at he color for the interior when it just says blue. So I can go ahead and assume that it will be two tone like I have pictured.

Iv been looking to pick up some 67 seats but no one around my area has them for sale that I have been able to find. And shipping on them is crazy.

Let me make sure I've got this right. I could buy a 65-66 seat and put 67 foam on it and would be able to put the 67 upholstery on it right?

This is my color combo. Is this what you want? Mine is a 67 though.
Call CJ's and ask if their 68 "blue" is two toned. My bet is that it is.

Yes that is the color combo that I am looking for.

Had some pretty amazing luck today on my search for the 67 seats.
Found them on a local website for $75 for the whole set. Hoping to pick them up this saturday.
I think yall give me luck

Bingo, you're in business... Here's the deal with upholstery listings in pretty much any parts supplier's catalog... They don't always spell out 2-tone, or the specific shade of blue used on different components, because it is implied and generally understood that you're going to be provided components that are generally TRUE TO FACTORY ORIGINAL. Every single Mustang that rolled off the assembly line in 1967 with a blue interior had a multi-toned interior, as it went with many different interior color options. Rarely did a car come from the factory flat-out monotone, as that was a styling faux pas. So don't take the color designations too literally, just have faith that what you'll get is what was originally done. A monotone blue 1967 seat upholstery would be a custom/special-order thingy. Same for 1968. Have fun!!
