Non-Returning brake pedal
CAR= stock 65 coupe, 289, 2bbl, bone stock engine. 3spd.man trans, man.steering & man brakes ( 4wheel drum with single pot master cly.) This car has been my daily driver for the past 25 yrs. Approx. 4000 miles ago the complete braking system (excluding hard lines) was replaced with all new components. At that time the fluid was replaced with "DOT 5" silicone fluid. All was well untill one day the brake pedal seemed to not return-up as high as usual. At this time there was NO brake shoe drag. THE QUESTIONS ARE;
A. Is there a brake pedal return assest spring up and under the dash ???
B. Are there problems with DOT-5 replacements ??
C. Are the only solutions; 1st bleed the system and if that fails replace the master cly. ??

Piston inside mc could be binding or mc return spring could be broken.
Dot 5 is not hygroscopic thus condensed ambient moisture can pool inside mc, wc, etc and lead to corrosion issues.
Dot 3 exposed rubber should not contact Dot 5 fluid.
Old Dot 3 exposed lines must be completely cleaned followed by alcohol flush and then dried.

Don't overlook the clutch/brake pedal support bushings/bearings. I've got the same problem with my 67 coupe right now. The pedal support bushings are shot and holes oblong'd. Sometimes when I push the clutch (also a 3 speed) and brake at the same time, the brake pedal will stick due to the whole assembly shifting/binding. I bought the roller bearing kit from CJ Pony Parts and am going to start the removal/installation tomorrow morning. Just something else to check, as well as your master cylinder.
