Welcome to the forum, and good luck with your project. But this is a 'little' overreaction. You need to learn how these forums work. People will often ask a question to get more information to help answer your question, and sometimes people asking questions aren't clear about (or don't know what) they really have, and of course, now and then someone is just rude. That's how these things work and why they are helpful (except for the rude part). And his '1966 Ford Mustang = bottomless money pit' is HIS tagline/signature, with no reference to your car (though I can testify that my 65 Mustang is a bottomless money pit).

You might find some headers for a 429 in a 70 or so Mustang that might fit with the shock towers gone since the shock towers are the main obstacle to work around. I'd check there and do some measuring.

Frankly I don't know of a poster here that has a 1st gen Mustang with a 429/460, so not a lot of answers on the header question, and there probably won't be.

For my 39 with a 351 I had to buy 3 sets (and return 2 sets) to find a set of headers that would work for me. just the way it works when you stray from "the normal".

66 Tang was trying to gather enough info to try and help, (lots of folks don't know that the 429/460 series (was also called the "Lima series" for a while) is a "385 series" engine.)

Anyway, welcome to the forum, but your rant about 66 Tang was out of line.....

Its not the shock towers its more the mustang 2 cross member is there which the collector would probably hit or be tight on.Shorties would work but long tubes would flow better but have to be made to fit.

Whoa, sorry i couldnt help with your header problem, and sorry i dont know much about headers for a big block in an early mustang. Its kind of an odd swap and unless your drag racing, i really dont see the point. Im sorry i offended you with my lack of knowledge of the "385 family". I didnt realize that two sentences were considered "shooting off my mouth". I think your paragraph about my lack of knowledge most would consider shooting off YOUR mouth. And i think most would agree these classic cars are a bottomless money pit, maybe im stating the obvious, but it is true. Good luck with the headers, dont bother replying to this, i will not return to this thread.

Right. Forgot about the crossmember being in the way. Custom or shorties probably are the only options.
