Default 1966 Mustang/Engine, transmission

I have A 1966 Mustang, that im doing A full restoration on it. So I want the car to be quick off the line. The Car is an automatic. Not my choice for an automatic. But it will do. so im just curious what engine and transmission I should put in it for it to be quick off the line. Thanks for any input

It has a 302 in it right now, Im not sure which transmission it has at the moment. All i know the engine needs rebuilt. The car was sitting outside in the rain. For close to 25 years

to start with you could rebuild that motor and put an edelbrock carb and intake, with a edelbrock cam to match, with headers and dual exhaust it would be pretty quick off the line. but thats just something to toss around, sky is the limit. my buddy has a 66 coupe with a 347 stroker and beefed up c4 auto and runs 11 second quater miles with it, its a bit of a neck snapper

Define quick off the line and your budget.

Stroke the 302 to a 347, heads, custom cam, intake etc etc, beefed trans, reinforced chassis, suspension work, built rear with gears, stall, drag radials. Should rape most cars from a stop.

And why does budget not matter? Did you win the lottery or something?

not only do you have to look at the engine and trans you need to look at gears. your stock rear end is a one wheel wonder with 3.0 gears in it. if you install a set of 3.83 or 4.11 gears with a trac loc rear end you can do minimal mods to the engine and still beat most cars. Most people over look the gearing. you can take a mostly stock 302 with nothing more than a 4barrel carb, intake, headers and ignitition and wind it up to about 6k rpms through a 4.11 rear end and you will take most cars off the line.
you only run into problems when you want to drive on the highway.

Post up more details of what exactly you want to do and how much you have to spend and ow much time you want to take to get it ready and this forum will deliver.

You are asking a fairly general question, you cannot get specific info that will help you unless you narrow it down.
