Default C4 transmission

I'm starting to look for a tranny for the '65. I decided to keep it old school and I will go with a C4 transmission.

I have a '93 Cobra motor that I will be going carbed and a normal dizzy ignition.
The car will also have a '71 Maverick 8" rear end in it.

I found this on JEG's.

Will this bolt up to the '93 Cobra motor and car itself with out issue?
I didn't know if I would have drive shaft length issues to deal with or not.

The 93 Cobra motor should be a 5.0. If it is the two items you linked to JEGS will work behind that engine. If that is the way you want to go I would call JEGS and ask them before ordering. Your old drive shaft will work but I'm just not sure of the length of the trans. The trans specifies 70-83 years. I'm not sure why it would not be 67-83 years. Ask JEGS.

I called up JEG's and this is what they said I will need.

For the tranny I listed http://www.jegs.com/i/TCI/890/511238/10002/-1

I need this bell housing.

157 tooth 50 oz. flex plate

A mild torque converter

I can use this pulley kit to allow me to use a single V belt and the stock 50 oz. harmonic balancer.

I'll need a normal rotation water pump

They say the bell housing accepts either the 157 or 164 flex plate, why do they want you to use the 157? Shouldn't be any reason you can't use the 164 that is on the motor.

BTW, sent you a PM.

Fly wheels are for standard tranny's, flex plates are for Automatics, it took me a while to figure that one out. They serve the same function, but they are different.

The Cobra motor had a standard tranny behind it so it had a 50 oz. fly wheel and not a 50 oz. flex plate that is needed for a automatic, thus my need for a flex plate for the automatic.

Any advantage/disadvantage between a 157 tooth and a 164 tooth flex plate?

I got your PM, I'll PM back.
