Default How Close Should The Wheel Be?

I bought some 17 x 7 bs 4.25 front and 17 x 8 bs 4.75 rear. I have not put tires on, but when I put the rim on the rear, the inside edge of the fender lip and outside edge of the wheel about line up. Any tire past the rim lip will rub. Options are roll the fender lip which I don't want to do. Is this a normal fit or does it seem to close.

That is not a good sign.
What is the vertical gap between your wheel and fender and how tall will the tire be?
How new are your leaf springs?
You may be able to trim the fender lip with a small rotary tool cutting wheel.
Can you get rear wheels with a better backspacing?

unless your axle isnt centered, they will fit fine. You can use up to a 275/40 depending on how low your car is.

DO NOT CUT THE LIP!!!!! that will give you a razor sharp edge that will cut your tires. If you roll them and they do happen to rub, it wont eat the sidewall

I have 4.5 mid eye new leaf springs. I am looking at putting 17x7 with either a 4.25 or 4.5 bs. Not sure to put that on all four or make front and rear different. Tires I am looking at either 225/45 or 225/50 in rear and either 215/45 or 215/50 in front. I would rather not roll fenders and not worry about every bump abd dip on the road. Anybody with that setup?

if you dont plan on rolling the fenders(not sure why), a 225 will fit fine being that its a 7" tire.Although a 225 is too narrow to look right and the sidewall will be too short.I have had my 17's for aver 15 years so i know what will fit i did the same set up on a buddies coupe with mid eye leafs. It didnt rub at all with 275's.But its personal preference.

I'm sure rolling is better, but if you trim the lip sufficiently, you won't have tire to metal contact, which is the point in the first place.
My lip was 1" wide for some reason, so I trimmed half of that off directly above the tire and blended at about 10 and 2 o'clock. This was when I had a questionable tire/wheel combo. Since then it has evolved to where contact is no longer possible, which is the goal.
I could probably fit 295s at this point.

The lip on a 64-66 is way less then 1", if you cut it and its not enough clearance, it will very hard to impossible to roll it after that. The guy that painted my car thought he knew more then me so he cut my fenders, i now have a 1/4" lip i cant do anythin with so its chewing up my tires.

This doesn't look right? It's a 225/50R16. I do think on a 17 it's just not going to look right but on a 16 a 225 looks pretty good.

to ME it doesnt.I like a wider tire in the rear and a lowered stance.I had 16's and sold them to my neighbor
