Default front shock mount

while putting new tires on my 70 i noticed the right side bottom shock mount had the rubber pushed out of it. im talking about the mount that mounts to the top of the upper control arm. i know ill have to compress the spring and remove the shock to fix it but will a new bushing affect the alignment.

the short answer is yes, and here's why, first of all you should replace the bushing on both sides even though the other side seems fine, it's the same concept as doing brakes you don't just do one side. Second in order to get to the bushing you will be taking things apart, it is the taking of things apart and putting them back together that warrants an alignment, for an alignment I would recommend finding a shop that has done a classic mustang or two, and not your pimple faced Pep Boys techies, (no offense to pimple faced boys out there, lol)

I'd find a shop that actually understands alignment, like a race car chassis builder.

Understanding alignment and doing alignment are completely different things.

If you want only the bushings, you can get them from Glazier/Nolan, p/n G05116 $16, but they must be pressed into your old saddles. If you don't have access to a press, get the whole saddle, p/n G05014 $25.

I'd just get the whole saddle, since the rubber insular the spring rests on is likely tore up as well.

Funny thing, the replacement saddles come with these, but the originals didn't. Which is why they usually aren't there on beat-up old Mustangs.

Haha, didn't know that. Mine had beat up ones, but I suspected stuff had been replaced.

well like a lot of things the hard part was finding out what there called. finally figured that out and found them at a few places. figured it would be best to replace the whole part, cheap enough.
