Unhappy 66 with fuel issue

Hi, trying to get my 66 6cyl back on the road. Have replaced brakes, master cyl, wheel cyl. the motor turns over but no gas getting to carb. Just wondering if i should look at anything other than the fuel pump? Thanks

No offense intended, but check to see if fuel is in the tank first. Then pull the hose off the carb and put it in a bucket. Take the coil wire off and get someone to turn it over for you. This won't verify fuel pressure but is a good start. Hook that back up if your getting fuel. Look down the carb and twist the throttle by hand. You should get a good shot of gas. If all this turns up good it should go.

Okay thanks, yes there is fuel in the tank. not the pump, must be sending unit. time to drain and drop the tank.

Sending unit only tells the guage how much gas is in the tank. Dribble a little gas down the carb and see if it fires up. At least that will help you determine if the problem is lack of gas or lack of spark.

It takes a while to prime the fuel pump if it's been sitting for a while. most of the time its as easy as filling the outlet line with gas and then hooking it back up. sometimes you need to prime the outlet and the inlet lines (pour gas into both)

when i pulled off the rubber line coming from the bottom of the tank, no gas dripped out of the tank. It has been sitting for a long time. I am thinking that the sending unit and possible the tank itself is corroded. I have an inline filter that is glass so i am sure no gas is getting to carb. I will try to prime pump if you still think that may be the issue.

Run a hose from the fuel pump input into a 5 gallon gas can and see if it starts then. May still take some cranking.

If no gas comes out of the tank when you remove the hose, something is clogged. New tanks are not that expensive.

What you describe is indicative of either no gas in the tank or the fuel feed tube is clogged. You can put a length of stiff wire into the feed tube to try to unclog it. Else you need to drain the tank (if it's fueled) and remove the sender (simply turn the retaining ring out of the locks and it will fall into you hands) from there you can make a decision on a new tank and sender.

This is a the best thing to do first, that is if you have spark. I had a 68 mustang that we could not get started and there was fuel in the tank, we put new fuel pump, carb, fuel filter, fuel lines and it turned out that the fuel line coming from the tank to the fuel pump, (probably close to the gas tank), well it was clogged. So what we did was, we got an air nozzle/air compressor, put the nozzle to the fuel line that is coming from the engine bay where it starts going back to the gas tank, and we shot air into it with lots of pressure, next thing we know, we could hear something pop out in the gas tank and it was clear from there. I would reccomend dropping the tank and emptying it out to make sure no junk goes back in there.. Anyhow, in the end it was just a clogged fuel line between the gas tank and fuel line going into engine bay. Hope i made sense.
