Default Electrical Charging Problems need help

After changing my voltage regulator and testing my alternator I still cant get my charging system to put out less than 14.8 volts. Its constantly between that and 15.4v. Im starting to think that its because of my wiring. Any suggestions would help. At the parts store my alt. Put out 14.4 on the tester.. its making me mad.

Oh and this is the second regulator within 3 weeks. The system just decided to start charging at 18.6v both times.

Your stator wire is probably touching your hot wire in the loom like your thinking. That is telling the alt to charge full blast. Not sure on that year, mine was white. But the regulator sends varying voltage to the alt and tells it how high to charge. If you give it 12v, it CRANKS out the voltage. Bypass all your wiring and hook a wire from the alt to the regulator, taht way it can't touch the 12v source. I test to see if an alt is working by hitting the stator wire with 12v. The voltage spikes, alt is good. So here we're going to eliminate the old wiring as a variable. When mine did it, it pegged at 18 volt, too. Fuel pump was on crack lol.
