just to claify before I mess something up,

I know when the rear end if lifted and the tires are off the ground the diff comes closer to the transmission, so would that mean when the tires go up toward the wheel well like when you hit a bump the diff gets further away?

Depends on exactly how everything is set up. There's very little movement in either direction. There's going to be a 0 point somewhere where the diff is closest. Any compression or extension past the 0 point and the diff gets farther away. Whether it gets closer or farther on compression or extension will depend on how everything is set up, but that's what the slip yoke is there for.

Why are you asking? Curious, or are you having a driveline issue?

its not that I have a problem its that I'm tired of going back to the junkyard to get a differnt shaft.....this one is 50 1/2 so this better be the one...test fit before the u-joints it looks really tight.

I dont want to have one made because I dont know how to measure for one, and I plan on changing to either an overdrive auto trans or a 5-speed at some point.
