Default 289 build

My dad and I are planning on rebuilding his 289 soon. How much power can it hold? I think we might put a stroker 306(does it fit?) , aluminum heads, intake, new carb, cam, and a new exhaust system. Can a 289 block hold this much power and if so, what is a guesstimate at the HP ratings.

A 302 is stroked 289, same type block I think. Should hold 300-350 hp using quality machining, parts and fasteners.

Yeah, it's the same block. So much depends on what you add to the top of the pistons. As Daniel pointed out, getting over 300 HP from a 289 is doable.

Basically you are sticking a 302 rotating assy into your 289 block that is .030" overbored, no problem.
