What program are you using to tune it with?

I almost went with this system, the only things that held me back were #1 made in China and #2 speed density. I was really close to pulling the trigger but in the end if I were going EFI I wanted mass air flow......which still may happen at some point since I'll probably build another motor in the near future....if I ever finish building this one. For now I opted for a Holley 650 HP series 4150 stage 5 carb from Bigs.

My 1050 Dominators never gave me a bit of trouble in the 16 years I've been running them. I figure the baby brother would treat me just as well.

MAF actually isn't everything it's cracked up to be. Pretty much all the aftermarket EFI systems used for acing are SD, and no MAF. The problem was the factory SD systems weren't always that great, so they gave SD a bad name.

Sorry I'm just now weighing in guys...been on a business trip this week.

I've had my 65 for 11 years now. 5 years with Holley brand carbs and 6 years with stock efi systems. The long term driveability of the EFI has been hands down better than the carb. I'm an occasional driver...weekends, sometimes go a month without starting. I had numerous carbs and in all cases they became more obstanate with age. Fuel deposits, seals, I dunno. What I do know is that the EFI system had performed flawlessly over these years. Also, it does not have to be expensive. I did mine on the cheap. Swap meet harnesses, A9Ls for 100 bucks, etc.. There's only 38 wires to a 88-93 Fox EFI system. If you can install a carb, you can install an EFI system.

I'll never go back.

The question is which carb and what fuel and when was this? When I have my carb set and don't change anything in the engine(like I did recently), the carb is fine for years. Driving from sea level to 4,500', from 0*F up to over 110*F. 0 issues, always starts on the first crank stone cold regardless of weather, drives just like it has fuel injection, no hiccups, stumbles, hesitations or anything.

The only carbs I've had issues with running right are Edelbrocks, just cuz the throttle response is never what it should be.

When properly tuned, with good gaskets and good fuel/filters, a carb should give long term trouble free service.

Thanks. I'm heading to the Auto Fair in Charlotte tomorrow to talk with some reps and see what I can find. I have several questions for you if you do not mind sharing about performance parts. Remember I am fairly new to all this. If you are running the stock EFI (mine is a 93 model) what upgrades have you done? I have talked to both Edlebrock about heads and cam and Comp about cams and just am not happy with the options. I would like to go off the shelf route, if possible, because I can buy through a dealer and I am under a little time and $ crunch. I know custom is probably the ticket, but not right now. Any help would be much appreciated if you (especially since you have the stock system I want to use) or anyone else does not mind sharing. Thanks

In all due respect, a lot of us are new to this and are not, and probably will never be, as technically advanced as you so we need to find the easiest route for what works reasonably well in all circumstances. I have read many of your replies and am impressed with your knowledge, but I will never be there. Keep posting and i will keep learning, though. Thanks for the learning experience.

I just read about your system and some very good reviews on it, but I want to keep the stock system on it for now and see how it works. I love my 65, but it has become a $ pit and the wife is getting a little touchy because she thinks I am obsessed. Any suggestions on engine mods with the stock EFI? I am going to buy a new harness and computer and would like some advice on that. Thanks.
