I have never found time to be helpful with this. Jack under the back end of the front rails, with all of the fender bolts except at the very front and very rear. Have a heavy friend sit on the bumper, if necessary. In exteme cases, I have used a Port-A-Power between the shock towers.

Bump to this thread, and new info and new request.

I have had the car jacked up in front at the rear of the front frame rails, and I loosened the fender bolts. The geometry to the shock towers changed a bit, but not enough to get the braces in. I still need about half an inch of movement.

I bought the proper Monte Carlo bar from Dallas Mustang today, and it bolted right in. Apparently the towers have not leaned in, but have leaned back towards the rear of the car. Looking at the structure, and how the unibody is assembled, this just doesn't make sense to me. Therefore I am back to thinking that I have the wrong strut braces.

I did some more snooping online, and I now think that my braces are for pre-1970, not 1971-1973. So now my request:

Can someone with a 1971-1973 Mustang send me a picture of their braces, or provide measurements of their braces, in particular the length from a firewall hole to the shock tower hole? This will help me confirm that I am not tilting at a windmill.

Not to worry. Glazier/Nolan has a box of maybe 30 pair of 71-3 braces. You can even get them brand-new as repros. Dunno why anyone bothered to do that, when there is so much other stuff badly needed for the 71-3, like cowls. I heard a rumor that the 71-3 AC cowl is being done, available perhaps later this year. Suddenly a whole lot of 71-3 Mustangs would become restorable when this happens.
