Default houston we have a problem

Well I've been trying to install my 302 for almost a week now. I keep running into priblems with the install. Neither set of motor mounts I have bought work with my frame mounts. First set would only get one side bolted down, second set doesn't even get 1. I bought my frame mounts that came out of a 70 mustang. My second set of motor mounts were supposed to be the specific mounts needed to make 68-70 frame mounts work in a 67. What should I do now? Waste more money on reproduction frame mounts and hope they work it spend more money and buy Ron Morris kit?

I'm now buying a 3rd set of motor mounts. Lets hope 3rd time is the charm.

So now I've bought Autozone motor mounts, Mustangs Unlimited "short" motor mounts, and I just now ordered the MU "tall" motor mounts.

Bet the ron morris adjustable mounts would solve the problem.

Yeah I got the go ahead to just buy whatever I want. So if these mounts don't work I'm buying the ron morris stuff.

I talked with a ford expert who's been in the racing scene since the early 70's a few weeks ago and the conversation went to motor mounts. Apparently there were minor variations from year to year, engine to engine, and very few people know it. If you were to look at the mounts they are minor, but enough to give you trouble.

Solution 1: Find the exact correct mounts for your year/engine. Might (will) be hard.

Solution 2: Get adjustable mounts and be done with it. Plus it gives you some flexibility with future changes etc.

I used my original '67 brackets which are supposed to be 1yr. only and was worried I'd have to wobble out the holes in the Lakewood mounts I bought. I could get the right one to line up and slide the long bolt through but couldn't get the drivers to line up. I hoisted the motor again and loosened the bolts that hold the mounts to the block so they could slide just barely. I lowered to be just suspended with no wt. on the mounts and wiggled the engine a few times and both long bolts slid in. Dropped the engine and tightened up all bolts. Guess I got lucky.

Repo mounts are generally junk and usually create the problems you are referring to. Buy the TCP or Ron Morris mounts and ease some headache.

Its in! I went back to the autozone motor mounts and just kept at it. Took another 2+ hours, but it is actually in and bolted down. So now I will have 2 sets of motor mounts to send back to Mustangs Unlimited.

The Anchor mounts everyone carries tend to be a little sloppy with tolerances. I've had to scrape all of the excess rubber 'flash' off of them and even grind out the holes a hair to get the through bolts to run through the mounts. Just depends on the specific mount.

In any case, glad you got it together.
