Do you still have that vibration? I had the same symptoms that you describe and I switched my tires from bias ply to bias radial and that made the difference.

When you convert to V8 manual steering, get the Opentracker roller idler arm. Its a great upgrade.

have the idler already (stock style). but i'll remember this for future. thx!
I wonder what it's going to be like after changing 45 year old bushings and idler arm :-)
we have that 1972 cuda going. so as soon as I see the back of that yoke I'll be starting with my car. so hopefully during this week or next weekend

Kalli

I have also been fighting the same issue. i have followed all your posts about this. i bet that we both have the same issue. here is what i have changed since i converted to the t5 and got the vibe

Rear end, went to an 8.8 and set the pinion angle
switched tires and wheels
installed a brand new drive shaft with u-joints
swapped out to another T5(went to the cobra spec)
changed pinion angle to the front and the back (no change)
changed the t5 mount

I have no idea what is causing it.

Is it a rhythmic vib or random vib. I chased a rhythmic vib on one of my mustangs for ever replaced everything short of a new trans which was fine before the rebuild of the car, never did figure it out, just sold the car because i could not stand it anymore. Hope yours goes better. One thing that i never did do that after i sold the car a trans shop told me is that on an 8.8 rear their is spost to be weights to help with vib on the rear end. Mine never did have them might of been what it was but am not sure as i sold the car before fixing the problem.

Just my thoughts... From the posts it appears to be vibrating in time with the rear axle rpm? Assuming yes... new driveshaft didn't help? You mentioned you checked pinion angle, what was it? What is it in relation to the trans angle?

Was it a new rear or did it come from salvage? Are the axles tweaked? Flanges bent? Its easy to check with the rear out of the car.

Did you swap wheels/tires from left to right and try again?

Did you check the trans tailshaft bushing and slip yolk for wear?

After replacing all the old components you should notice a huge difference.

Glad that Cuda is doing well.

ya, I can't wait to see the end of that Cuda story. wrong flexplate, but all else is good. so once that is changed. goodbye Cuda, welcome Mustang ...
i hope to have all steering parts this week and will have a lash at it then.

jcoby: I'll make sure to re-check all bushings, they're all new 1000miles ago, but who knows maybe I damaged one or anotyher with all the stupid vibrations

well plan for today was to put in the steering, a new starter (old one packed up) and drop the engine with RMP motor mounts. i guessed the steering will be out in half hour, after 20 minutes all out, but I couldn't get the pitman arm off.
no puller :-( i tried with hammer and prybar, but didn't want to overdo it.

So bolted it all back up with new starter again. at least I can drive again ...
have to borrow a puller somewhere and go back at it again :-*
