Default 65 engine?

Hi all,

New to the site so feel free to give stick where necessary. Had a quick search and couldn't find anything.

Question is; what's the biggest block you'll bolt in a 65 fastback without any mods?

I haven't purchased the car yet, am about to this week but am curious if the 66' 67's and 68's fit bigger donks in them as well?

I'm in Australia so the Clevo's are dime a dozen... so are the Windsors I guess... I really wanted a 460 but pretty sure she wont fit. ;-)

65 and 66 are the same. There's a few who fit a 351w and 351c into it and some stroked that to a 408. Both need a bit ofmodificaton. Search the threads for it. In 67 and upwards you get them in noproblem.

The 64-66 Mustang was designed to fit the 289. The 351, an enlarged version of the 289, will fit, barely.

The 67 mustang was redesigned, because Ford found out Chevy was planning to fit the 67 Camaro with the 396, so Ford widened the compartment to fit the 390. An unintended consequence is it is large enough to fit the Ford "385" engine, the largest of which is the 460. That's not a typo- with special motor mounts and headers, the 460 Ford V8 is virtually bolt-in for 67-70 Mustangs. And of course the 71-73 was designed for it. Big enough?
