Question Disc Brake conversion on Inline 6??

Has anyone done a disc brake conversion on there inline 6 and if so what brand of brake conversion kit did you go with? Does anyone know of a good disc brake kit that is good quality but not top expensive?

I'd give real serious consideration to the Scarebird kit. VERY inexpensive, uses stock parts available anywhere (except for the Scarebird brackets) and you get to keep the stock wheels you have now, if you want.

Thanks for the info guys!! If I wanted to do a 5 lug conversion what would I need other then a new rear end and front spindles and of course a V8 disc brake conversion?

If you intend to use 5 lug V8 spindles then you should upgrade the steering linkage to V8 spec as well. The geometry of the manual 6 cylinder linkage is not optimal for these spindles. The new linkage includes a pitman arm, center link, idler arm and bracket, inner and outer tie rods, and tie rod adjusters.

There are several options for converting the 6 cylinder car to disc brakes. Any conversion to 8 cylinder spec will require a spindle change. Most, if not all, of the conversions that use the existing undersized 6 cylinder spindles have 10" rotors.

If your looking at doing a conversion to 5 lug here is a nice kit ive used it works great and i can afford it. http://www.opentrackerracingproducts.com/discbrakes/ Most of the steering parts for v8s are pretty cheap too if running manual steering.

Seriously? I drove an S10 Blazer for years, thing would stop on a dime. Considering it was probably near double the weight of a 65 Mustang, I'd say that was plenty of stopping power.

The thing about the Scarebird conversion is you could do it for a few hundred bucks on a Saturday afternoon. 5-bolt conversion will cost you at least 4-5 times as much, and require a month of weekends to accomplish.
