Default Transmission Trouble

Hey guys, I have a '65 coupe with a 289 and a c4, all pretty well stock. My transmission is slow to shift into third and will not go into low, even manually. My plan was to replace the fluid and filter, new modulator valve and tighten both bands to see if I get an improvements.

I was going to tighten the intermediate band (drivers side) last night but after loosening the lock nut I was able to turn the adjuster all the way in until there was no threads left by hand. Could the band be that worn? Broken? Does that go along with the symptoms I am having?

When I drop the pan can I at least see the band?

Thanks

Joe

Well if anyone else has this type issue with the adjuster, I dropped the pan then the valve body. When I did I heard 3 things clunk into the catch pan I had to catch the fluid. There are small connecting pieces between the band and the servo and the adjusting screw. The one on the servo side split in two and caused the band to be completely slack. I am sure the only way to find this piece will be from a junk tranny somewhere so I welded it back together and will put it all back together tomorrow and see what happens...and hope the little weld holds.

You'd be surprised what you can get new for C4 transmissions. But it sounds like you answered your own question.

Back together this morning. Test drive...shifts smooth as glass. Time will tell on my welding.
