Ohm range for '67 sending unit
Fuel gauge stopped working recently and I checked all the wiring from gauge to sending unit on tank. Wiring was fine, no breaks noted. Checked ohms on sending unit by attaching voltmeter to sending unit terminal and ground. Read 69.3 ohms. Tank is almost empty...I think? Any wise people here know the ohm range for these units? I hear it could be 10 ohm full tank to 73 ohm empty....any conformation on this would be appreciated....thanx
That sounds close to being right. I think the ohm range on the sending unit has to match the gauge. Try grounding the sending unit and see if the gauge doesn't go to maximum reading. If it doesn't, then you probably have a bad gauge.

CogTX sounds like he knows what he's doing, but for clarity to others... Make sure you ground the wire that goes to the sending unit, and make sure you use a GOOD ground.
Also make sure you clean up the connections. A little trick I figured out is to take a new cotter pin, tear off some 800 - 1000 grit sand paper slide it inbetween the pins and wrap it. By inserting the paper in the pin, it will hold the sand paper while you spin it in the connector plug. I did the entire wiring harness for my car, and it rocks! Just like new
Thanx for the input guys...looks like the sending unit is OK but the gauge is not working. Don't know which is worse as the gauge costs more than a sending unit from what I am able to locate. However, might just rig a wire to the sending unit connection up thru the trunk and use the voltmeter to read the ohms to estimate fuel level until I locate a good deal on the fuel gauge. Better put some gas in soon before I get a call from my son about being stranded on the road with all his buddies pushing him to the nearest gas station (huh...brings back memories of the ancient past for me).....
An entire sending unit costs like $125 Bux from Texas Mustang, but I found a gauge for like 50 Bux from these guys. http://www.fomoco.com/1967-1968-mustang-parts.shtml
You can also get a fuel gauge from EBay for 35 bux.

Thanx Soaring...John's Mustang in Houston is around $28 for a sending unit but the gauges are a little more pricey. After filling up the stang with gas yesterday, I check the ohm reading on the unit and it looked to be all out of whack. Might have a bad sending unit and gas gauge. I plan on working on the fuel gauge and sending unit before making a purchase. Hopefully, there is a bad ground somewhere which would be an easy fix. Either way, my son and I are having a good time with this ride and appreciate the help from all in this forum....
Be careful in what you mean by a sending unit. Or, at least what your supplier means by a sending unit. The complete unit, which includes the float and all, is well over a hundred bucks at all vendors. I took mine out last summer, and cleaned it all up, but it was still working, and the float was not flooded. The brass float needs to be gas free. If it is flooded, then the float mechanism needs to be replaced, so why not just replace the entire sending unit while you are in there?
Will have to check into that Soaring regarding what actually comes with the sending unit. Here is the link for John's Mustang sending units http://johnsmustang.com/Catalog/419/..but will call them about details...thanx again..
