Who makes a good Duraspark Box?
Finished a Duraspark II conversion on my 66 I6 200 the other weekend. Wow what a much smoother idle, easier start, and smoother acceleration. When I did the swap I borrowed my brother's ignition module of unknown make.
I went to the store and all they had what a China special. I almost always avoid Chinese made parts and any cost, but I had no option so I put it on. Occasionally I would get rough starts with a rough idle. I would also experience occasional misses and poor acceleration when applying a sudden load. So, I borrowed my brother's again and no problems.
Now I need to buy a GOOD ignition module. Borg Warner makes their "premium" brand. But I'm wondering if anyone else has any recommendations. I know box to box they are all not equal, but even having a good reliable brand to start with would be nice. I've even considered take a gamble on a FoMoCo from the junk yard ?
Thanks,
Scott

Duralast = crap in a box. Autozone couldn't tell you who makes the part, likely because the supplier changes monthly based on who gets them the cheapest price.
BWD (aka Borg Warner) = Echlin (Napa only) = Standard Motor Products. They're pretty much the industry standard for quality replacement ignition/emissions parts. More expensive than the cheaper versions, but you have to pay for quality. You usually get a resin-filled box (for corrosion resistance), redundant-soldered board-to-plug connections, and superior heat-sinking.
An old Ford part is an option, but who knows if it's going to work or not. Some parts houses have module testers to verify, but you can't return a part to a junkyard if it's bad.
Don't spend any time looking for a Motorcraft replacement. Motorcraft doesn't actually make parts, they just buy and rebox them. You're paying for the name, not the quality.

I saw that Borg Warner made two boxes a CBE7 and CBE7P. After some hunting BWD's site (which sent me to Standard Motor Products) I found a phone number and basically they have three product lines Z (not usually labeled) P and some type of Premium Select. I ordered the P box, which is made of "higher quality materials". It was actually a few bucks cheaper than the standard box.
