Default Help me identify this 66 Mustang part!!!

I'm driving along and a pin and spring hits my foot. I have no idea wear it came from. The brakes still worked, most importantly. It's about 1 and a half inches long with a square head on it. The head has swirls on it like a neat thumbprint. Looks specific, but I'm lost.

may sound dumb, but which foot did it hit? were you accelerating or braking? is the car automatic or manual?

It's an automatic and the pin hit my left foot while I was going over an intersection.

It's not a brake, throttle, or clutch part. That doesn't leave much. Do the wipers work?

I would have said as well wiper switch or light switch part. If those two are working I'd say it doesn't belong. It has the typical groove if a switch

I've sent the pictures to a classic Mustang parts dept. Maybe they'll recognize it. Maybe it was left up under the dash by the previous owner and only fell out during the temporary lost of gravity when I flew over an intersection. I'd still like to have a little piece of mind on the matter.
