Default Shifter Question

I was at the dragstrip this weekend and on one of my runs I screwed up on my shift and either pushed through drive into neutral or got caught between second and drive (if that's possible). I have a c4 with the stock '70 shifter. With this shifter I can push it all the way from 1st into neutral without it stopping pretty easily, it will notch but it seems especially easy to push through drive if you're not careful.

Anyway, I was thinking about replacing the stock shifter with a ratchet or gate shifter. I was looking at the B&M Megashifter and the Hurst V-Matic shifter. I like these because they have a base that cleans up the look a little. What opinions do you guys have on these shifters? Do you think it's a good upgrade or do you think it's a bad idea?

The after market shifters are usually cable shifters and I have never seen one installed that worked all that well. If you pull your shifter out and look at how it works you will see that there are little steps that step up going from N to 1. You could either weld the N spot to be a little higher than the D step but still lower than the R step. Or build a little plate that would do the same thing but bolt in place. I would not waste my money on an after market shifter.
