Default Engine will not turnover

Greeting all.

I'm coming to seek advice about getting my mustang fired back up. I have a 66 coupe body with a 68 Bronco Engine in it. One day when i turned the key the engine would not start. I am finally getting back into time and funds and attempting to get it working again. Thus far i have replaced, relevant to the current symptoms, The starter, the spark plugs, Battery, battery cables, and i just replaced the solenoid switch. The starter is turning the fly wheel, i have verified that however i cannot be sure if there is a spark being produced the the plugs as i do not have anyone else here to help me test.

Any suggestions on where to proceed from here? My mechanical knowledge as far as cars go, i would rate myself as a noob at best, but i can read instructions and follow them. Although names of parts are usually lost on me, for now, the mechanics on how things work are not. I'm not sure if i should move to replacing the wires and distributor, or what my next move should be, but there is not much else left to replace.

Thanks for any help.

It is common for members to list many parts they have replaced in the hopes that it will fix the problem. This is not a cost effective way to solve the problem.

Diagnosis is an advanced skill. Therefore, I'd recommend getting the car towed to a shop so they can do the diagnosis. Don't look at this like it is a waste of money. It is a learning opportunity if you can hang around and watch them do the diagnosis. You can also ask many questions and get immediate answers.

There are many systems that must work in concert in order to have a running engine. Any one of these systems could be the cause for your no-start situation.

Please don't think that I am crapping all over your question. I am just trying to offer some advice.

Welcome to the Forum, glad you are here.

Superdave, welcome to the forum.
An engine needs the following things to run:
1. fuel
2. Ignition
3. compression
4. timing

With this said, the first thing you want to do to figure out why it won't start (it turns over just fine "starter turns the fly wheel")- there is a difference. remove the air cleaner lid and look down the throat of the carb while you open the throttle. you should see a big squirt of fuel. if you have fuel, the next thing to do is to check for spark. turn the key to the run position, put the emergency brake on and block the wheels, trans in park or neutral. remove the coil wire from the dist cap and hold it 1/2' away from an unpainted part on the engine (don't use the carb) Take a screw driver and short the battery terminal to the small S terminal on the starter relay. the engine will crank and you should see or feel a spark from the coil wire. do these things and get back to us.

Here is the first video I found on youtube showing what jlg was saying....

Not that it is a really good video, but it is effective.... lol...

Anyway, all I will mention is that the glove the guy is wearing WILL NOT keep you from getting your *** knocked off if the sparkplug isn't grounded right or your hand is in the wrong place....

Default Me too

Super Dave, I'm having the same problems with mine. I got a 94gt with a 351 windsor and everything under the hood is new, eeven the distributor. i mean everything. I had this problem before I replace everything and know that it's all in, I'm having the same issue I was having before I replaced anything. I'm thinking it"s something in the ignition, or maybe one of the wires from the harnesses which aren't new. If you hear of anything, let me know.

Henry you have an entirely different setup for engine control on a 94 vs the classics (it's called OBD). Although the fundamentals of how an engine runs is the same; the controls for 3 of the 4 requirements are way different. I suggest you go over to the later model forum for some more specific advice.
