Default Engine Bay Color ?

OK experts, I'm going to be painting two engine bays soon and need to know: What is the factory correct, concours color for 1) a '67 Coupe from Metuchen and a '68 Coupe from San Jose ? I assume they would both be a black semi-gloss ? Is that correct ? Or would it be a black satin, or flat black ?

I also assume that all engine bay parts get the same color. Please advise, and thanks.

I use Dupont acrlyic enamel with 30% flattener. It gives the right sheen. Be careful not to get your last coat too wet as this will work aginst you. If your interior is black, the addition of about 10cc of metal flake per pint will hit very close to the original color.

Thanks Evil. I guess I should have known that a rattle can should be out of the question. I have a basic spray gun set up that I've never used, but I don't think my compressor will keep up at all.

Hypethically, I've I was going to use a spray can, would the satin black be the way to go ? This technically is not going to be a concours restoration, but I'm having to start from scratch with the welding and may not really be motivated enough to try to set up a complete paint booth in my shop / garage, so I may have to resort to the spray cans even though that may not be the most optimal.

Your help is appreciated.

With care, enough rattle cans, and a trigger attachment to reduce finger fatigue, you can get an acceptable job.

Who said it was out the question? He certainly did not.

Nothing wrong with rattle can paint. I'm using VHT Satin Chassis Black epoxy paint on ours and underneath the car as well. I then coated the underneath with Rustoleum truck bed coat, but the bay is all VHT Satin Chassis black. Our car is not a concurs car and will not be driven in harsh elements, so it should last a good long time.
