Default how to spacers work?

i know this is such a noooob question, and im embarrassed for asking it haha but how exactly do wheel spacers work? im putting my 69 mach1 9" into my 67 coupe and im wondering if ill need spacers. i have a feeling i wont bc all 9" rears were the same from 67-70, but im just curious. and what is the largest tire one can fit on one of these coupes without having to roll the fenders? i wanted to run 17x9 in the back and 16x8 in the front. is that possible? i feel like an 8 inch tire in the back isnt enough meat to help put the power down to the ground.

67-70 rear ends are the same size it will fit just like your old one did.Rolling the fender lips depends tire size and back spacing of the rims.Give a look at http://www.dodgestang.com/Tire%20Fit...ide%2067-8.pdf

thanks andrew. that chart is confusing me a bit tho. but from what i gathered, it looks like i can run a 17x9.9 rim in the rear, with a 275 40 17 tire and not roll the fender? that's pretty cool. a guy i spoke to earlier today said he wouldnt go past 235 with a 15inch rim on the coupe bc of its small wheel base.

Not really sure if that would be possible. I'm currently running 275/50/15's on a 15x8.25 if i remember correctly. No spacers or anything and this is the clearance I have

With the added sidewall of a 60 over a 50 not sure how close it would be.

very nice stance! are you using standard eye springs or mid-eye? i spoke to specialty wheels and they said with standard ride height i can run a 15x8 with 4.5" backspacing and run a 255/60 easily but if i go mid-eye and drop the car ill need 5" of backspacing to avoid rubbing

I am not a fan of the 4.5 backspacing on these cars that most sites recommend..It looks good but in my case it made contact with the chrome wheel well trim..It also tends to shower the lower rear quarter panels with rocks..I am running 15X8 welds with 5.5 inch backspacing..That really tucks the wheels in..5 inch should be good or you should technically be able to run a 9 or even 10 inch wide rim with 5.5 backspacing and 4.5 offset..
