I have a 66 Mustang Coupe that has a 289 in it now and I am about to attempt to exchange it for a 351W and I need to know what I am up against.

I guess we're past most of the 'auto replies', so:
Can't say I've done this but I did have a W in a '70 and it is wider than the 289/302 at the heads so be advised that headers will be a tight fit. Just getting the bolts started to attach them is work much less slipping them in.
You may have better luck with stock exh. manifolds if you're going that route. The shock towers on the '65/'66 stick out further into the engine compartment also making it worse. I've read where some have grafted '67> shocktowers in for a little more room. They will also probably need to be 351W 'swap headers' so they may cost more than headers for a 289 in your car.
Good luck.

I kept my 289 and stroked it to 333ci, no external difference and probably doubled the stock hp/tq. the nice thing is you don't need to track down new alt brackets, pulleys, etc. as all the stock stuff fits.
Jon
