It is advertised to protect alum better. That is the main reason i was thinking about it. It also is said it lower engine temp.

Water Wetter doesnt lower coolant temperature by any degree whatsoever. However, it will eliminate hot spots near the cylinder head where localized boiling will occur. You wont see any drop in temperature though.

Water wetter will freeze below 30* IIRC. I use it to great effect, but do not store below 45* in the winter...

My experience has been quite the opposite. WW does just what it claims: it lowers the engine temp by a significant amount. Based on my own personal experience, I would highly recommend it. I'm draining my system this week for a bit of work, and I'm putting another bottle right back in. Trust me - these Central Texas summers are the ultimate bench mark! I'm surprised at these negative comments...

Water wetter and Purple Ice work great. They do reduce temperature. If you follow the directions on the bottle... reducing the ratio of anti-freeze to water, then pouring in the additive. Mine went from 1/2 scale to 1/3 scale on the temp gauge.

I thought it was snake oil at first, but I use it in my classic. (Required if you ever do the Woodward Cruise!) The tech line explained it to me like this: "Purple Ice reduces the surface tension of the water which allows a better thermal exchange from engine to water and water to radiator".

It only costs $6 or $7.00 give it a shot.

I put it in my 65 last summer when I did my annual flush and add new coolant mixture. Now, I also added a shroud, so that had a lot to do with it, but the WW in addition to the shroud brought my temp (Central Texas) down from 3/4 to 1/2 on the gauge at stop and go traffic with the air conditioner on. I think it's good stuff and not snake oil.

Hmmmmm, you guys all seem to have luck with it, but I didnt see any difference. Not one degree.

Griffin Radiators even has on their website a faq, and in it is a question about using WW or other additives. They say:

12) Should I run Redline "water wetter" in your radiator?
Redline "water wetter" is more costly than premium antifreeze, with no apparent advantages.

And this BMW site has a good article on the actual effects of WW:

http://e30m3performance.com/myths/mo...ter_wetter.htm

However, this site gives a good reason for using WW, as it stops corrosion:

http://www.water-cooling.com/article...aterwetter.php

I however, havent found it to be effective for cooling problems.

That link goes to a site that talks about CPU cooling. Even on that site they talk about temperature reductions in the CPU after adding the wetter water.

Everybody I know with a classic has gone over to using this stuff over the last two years. The last hold out was a guy with a 32 Chevy. He boiled over every time he pulled in to a show. As a group we decided he won the bottle of wetter water for a door prize and told him how to install it. He procrastinated for weeks, but finally installed it days before Woodward. I think he bought stock in the company after seeing his results.
